As someone struggling with abandonment issues in borderline personality disorder (BPD), I’ve begun using positive affirmations every day. Even though I don’t believe they’re all true right now, they are the positive beliefs I WANT to hold.
I use these affirmations as replacements for my old negative beliefs and thought patterns.
I wrote them down in my journal. And every day, I look in the mirror and repeat these affirmations to myself – sometimes multiple times a day. When I have a negative belief or thought that counters one of the affirmations, I stop myself, release it, and try to replace it with the more positive belief.
This is not easy and it doesn’t always work, but I’m determined to keep trying until I KNOW all these things are true.
I thought I would share them here for anyone else struggling with being alone, letting go of a favorite person, or otherwise dealing with feelings of abandonment due to BPD. They’ve been very helpful to me, so maybe they can help you too.
- I am worthy of love and respect, regardless of others’ presence in my life.
- I am complete on my own, and my happiness comes from within.
- I am resilient and can handle the challenges that come my way.
- I trust in my ability to navigate through life’s changes and uncertainties.
- I am surrounded by love, even when I am physically alone.
- I release the fear of abandonment and embrace my strength and independence.
- I am capable of creating a fulfilling and joyful life for myself.
- I am deserving of healthy, stable, and loving relationships.
- I am connected to a universe that supports and nourishes me.
- I am at peace with being alone; it gives me strength and clarity.
- I trust that everything happens for my highest good, and I am open to the lessons.
- I choose to focus on the love and support around me, rather than the absence.
- I am a source of love, and I freely give love to others and myself.
- My self-worth is not dependent on anyone else’s presence or approval.
- I am strong enough to face life head-on, with or without others by my side.
Cindy, while I don’t have BPD, I thank you for sharing these affirmations with us. I think I will start using some myself. Wishing you all the best 🫶🏻💜.
You’re welcome! Positive affirmations are good for everyone!
After watching your video, I decided to come find the affirmations you spoke of so I too can repeat them on a daily basis. It will take some time to believe I am capable of these things but here I am giving it a shot.
Love and peace to you Cindy, always.
