PLEASE NOTE: As of today, I’ve begun to deviate from the information found in Llewellyn’s Yearly Magical Almanac (which I once relied on heavily). As I’ve learned more about color and herb magic, I’ve found that I don’t always agree with the almanac’s selections for color and incense of the day.

Instead, I’ll be choosing color, incense, and crystal of the day based on the current day’s ruling planet and influences – in a way that appeals more to me personally. Sometimes these choices will be the same as those found in the almanac, and sometimes not.

Here are your witchy correspondences for Thursday, January 9, 2025:

Color of the Day: Purple

Moon of the Day: Waxing Taurus to Gemini

Thursday is ruled by Jupiter. Magical influences include expansion, money, prosperity, generosity, ambition, and power.

It’s a great day to donate to charity or help someone in need, if you’re able.

Color of the Day: Purple

Purple is associated with the day’s ruling planet, Jupiter. Magical properties of the color purple include inspiration, spirituality, power, exorcism, healing, and the sacred.

Use the color purple in spell work if your goal involves spiritual endeavors or any activity intended to benefit humanity as a whole. Purple also relieves tensions between friends.

Crystal of the Day: Amethyst

Amethyst, a purple quartz, is a receptive stone ruled by the planet Jupiter. Magical properties of amethyst include dreams, healing, psychism, peace, love, protection (especially against thieves), courage, and happiness.

Use amethyst in spell work to improve concentration, reduce and eliminate emotional outbursts, relieve fear and grief, cure insomnia, and encourage peaceful sleep and pleasant dreams.

Amethyst is known as the “stone of peace.” It’s a spiritual stone with absolutely no negative associations.

NOTE: As a person diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) who has struggled in her life with regulating emotions, amethyst is my favorite crystal. It’s soothing, calming, de-stressing, and uplifting. This stone helps calm emotional storms and keeps you in touch with your true self. If you struggle with emotional dysregulation, consider working closely with amethyst.

Incense of the Day: Clove

Clove is a masculine herb ruled by the planet Jupiter. Magical properties include protection, exorcism, love, and money.

Burned as an incense, clove attracts wealth, drives away hostile and negative forces, produces spiritual vibrations, and purifies space.

Moon of the Day: Waxing Taurus to Gemini

The day begins with the Moon in Taurus, but it moves into Gemini at 8:07 PM EST.

The waxing moon (the time from the new moon til the full moon) is an ideal time for magic to draw things towards you.

When the moon is in Taurus, things begun now last the longest, tend to increase in value, and become hard to alter. Brings out appreciation for beauty and sensory experience.

When the moon is in Gemini, things begun now are easily changed by outside influences. It’s a time for shortcuts, communication, games, and fun.

Connecting to Today’s Energy

Here are some things I’m doing to connect to the energy of the day:

Donating the proceeds this website generates today to charity. This week, I’m donating to the Project Hope Food Bank – a local charity that provides affordable and healthy food to food pantries and feeding programs that serve those at risk of hunger in Central Arkansas.
Lighting purple candles on my altar during my morning meditation and for any spell work I perform (when it aligns with my goals)
Wearing amethyst jewelry and purple-colored clothing

Writing in my journal with purple ink while focusing on matters of peace, healing, spirituality, happiness, and dreams
Meditating with amethyst and performing spell work with the stone to promote peace and emotional regulation
Burning clove incense during my morning meditation (and throughout the day) while focusing on improving spiritual vibrations and driving away negativity

Playing games and having fun with my partner in the evening to take advantage of the Gemini moon energy

Due to Jupiter’s influence and the waxing moon, it’s a great day to perform magic to attract wealth and to help others – especially with financial matters. It’s also an opportune time to focus on inner peace, healing, spirituality, and calming emotions.
