Color of the Day: Black

Saturday is ruled by Saturn. Magical influences include longevity, exorcism, endings, homes and houses.

Color of the Day: Black

Color magic uses various hues to influence energy. Black is often associated with the dark moon, defense, and grounding.

We call black a “color,” but it’s technically created by the absence of light – and therefore, the absence of color. Black absorbs light but doesn’t reflect any back.

Black traditionally has negative connotations. But in magic, I choose to focus on its properties of power, mystery, defense, and grounding.

Crystal of the Day: Onyx

I choose the crystal of the day based on the day’s energy, ruling planet, and associated color. Today is perfect to work with onyx, a projective stone ruled by Mars and Saturn.

Magical properties of onyx include protection, defensive magic, and reducing sexual desires. Onyx is traditionally used for protection as well as defense against negativity consciously directed towards you.

Incense of the Day: Magnolia

Magical properties of magnolia include endurance, stability, fidelity, abundance, purity, and everlasting connections.

I’m lucky to live in the American South, where Magnolia trees are plentiful. The flowers are commonly used here in bridal bouquets to represent the bride’s purity and the strength of marriage bonds.

Moon of the Day: Waxing Pisces

The waxing moon (the time from the new moon til the full moon) is an ideal time for magic to draw things towards you.

When the moon is in Pisces, the focus is on dreaming, nostalgia, intuition, and psychic impressions. It’s a good time for spirituality or philanthropic activities.

Magic of the Day: Strengthening Bonds & Defense

Today’s energy promotes strengthening bonds – especially marriage/romantic bonds – and defense magic. Here are some ways I’m connecting to the energy of the day:

Wearing empowered onyx jewelry and black clothing

Wearing a natural perfume made of magnolia essential oil diluted in a carrier oil (I like sweet almond or jojoba for this purpose)
Harvesting some magnolia leaf from a nearby tree and placing in a vase in my bedroom to strengthen romantic bonds (It’s winter, so the tree isn’t blooming, but the leaves are beautiful, evergreen, and produce the same magical effects.)
Creating a house defense/protection spell jar and burying it on my property

Lighting black candles on my altar for my morning meditation while focusing on embodying feelings of safety and protection
Burning magnolia incense throughout the day and during my morning meditation, while focusing on strengthening my romantic bonds

Today is a good day to perform protective magic – especially magic to protect your home. It’s also a great time to focus on fidelity and the longevity of your romantic relationship.
